An Evening of Poetry
It’s been great to see businesses like Nationwide mainstream contemporary poets in advertising and marketing campaigns regularly shown on TV screens, a really welcome feature.
But there are other opportunities for poets to share their work with lovers of poetry and literature, and to share a high profile platform with other poets, bards, spoken word artists, and griots, not least the precious Stanza Bonanzas of The Poetry Society UK.
Poetry is the literary love of my life, but I rarely read or perform in public nowadays, so it gives me great pleasure to issue a special invitation for you to join me on just one such rare occasion.
I’ll be sharing some of my poetic works at a late Autumn evening of poetry readings and performances from two of The Poetry Society’s Stanzas: Brixton and Palmers Green. Like a zodiac aligned, 12 poets will feature in this unique line-up, an event likely to warm the cockles of your soul during this season of mists and mellow fruitfulness.
DATE: Wednesday 2nd November 2016 from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.
VENUE: St Giles-in-the-Fields, 60 St Giles High Street, London, WC2H 8LG.
St Giles is known as ‘The Poets’ Church’, Poet John Milton’s daughter Mary was baptised in the Gothic brick building in 1647. Two memorials inside the church commemorate George Chapman, the translator of Homer (buried outside) and politician and poet Andrew Marvell.
This is a free event, entry by donation, no need to book, and everyone is very welcome, the more the merrier. You can visit the Poetry Society website for more information:
