58th Birthdate Anniversary

My birthday is coming up soon, I’ve been preparing to celebrate – I believe #preparation is a good thing to do, by reflecting on how I’ve been feeling, what I’ve been producing. This year has been one for a proliferation of creative outpourings, of expressive energy, getting things in to, and out of my system.

I took a little rest from my constant quest for information I can convert to knowledge and apply in my day job – focused mainly on fundraising and strategic development for non-profit organizations and grass roots groups. I continue to reel at the damage being done to Our Beautiful Planet Earth. Discarded plastics, pollution, pesticides, deforestation, the decimation of animal species, the diminishing numbers of bees, the loss of habitat, urban sprawl, wasteful humans, and human waste.

In response, and to ease my troubled heart, mind, body, and soul, I produced ‘SELECTIONS FROM MY GREEN PHASE’. View art and read poetry reflecting on these themes:

Remembering some of my musical traditions, the groups I sang with, and the great musicians too, especially The Zionites, Burru Chanters, Fari, Roy Levi, Jimmy’s Studio Crew et al.

I continue to write songs with poetic lyrics, and sing from time to time. No music video as yet, on my list of things to do. Let me know if you want to embark on a musical collaboration with me in the here and now.

This song ‘BE LOVERS’ is of the moment and sums up highs and lows in the human condition I experience and muse over. Feel free to sing it, and bring it to life with music.

It could be good out there

but people don’t care

enough at all

a promise to live

Seeing the truth

where many die

There are many today

who don’t watch what they say

false prophets in deed.

For a time they ignore

the cries of the poor

and those in need –

I’ve produced quite a lot of art this year, the featured image is one of my most recent paintings ‘APPROPRIATE MEASURES’, reminds me of the festive season, and that ever popular ‘glass half full or half empty’ question.

I’ve not come up with an absolute answer, to me it depends on human capacity to produce or consume sustainably. It should be a correctly sized receptacle, filled to an acceptable level, with an appropriate liquid, we all know hot coffee wouldn’t work in a wine glass!

 

I’d rather think in terms of ‘appropriate measures’, of being responsible for taking appropriate measures to protect wildlife, the environment, ourselves, each other. To not drink too much, to not do too little, to try and try again, to make this world a better place, to be lovers rather than haters, to be friends rather than enemies, to be a peacemaker rather than a warmonger.
